She began doing makeup and hair for her best friend and her family, as most dreams begin when she learned about a Model 4 Jesus fashion show called 'Rock the Runway' in 2009. Through the help of her cousin Kellie Mckinnes designer and tailor Neva connected with Mayra Gomez, founder of M4J and began volunteering at the M4J events. Interests in her makeup artistry sparked and she quickly developed her business cards from cardstock calling her passion 'Diva Designs Makeup' when she began handing cards out to models, designers, and others. Neva then moved on to working in Tampa Bay Fashion Week '09, which showcased designers such as Ben Chmura, now on this season's Project Runway TV show. Pat McGhee, for whom she created a lion face in only 4 minutes! For her segment in the fashion show. Artistic juices really began to flow when Neva did makeup at the Trashion Fashion Show '09, for wearable art. For example, the lightning bolt Lady Gaga wears was one of the looks she's also done on models. Recently, Neva was contacted by Cindy Linville, photographer whom Neva says, "honored me with being published in the next edition of Vocess Magazine" by doing makeup on model Angee Killian Huntley. Since October 2009 Neva is also a rep for Hourglass cosmetics, and I myself highly recommend the makeup line as well as the artist, of course.
I've asked Neva; why does she enjoy makeup? She responds, "I love to make people feel better about themselves when people come to me and they have no makeup on, their hair up in a tangled mess and saying Help me! When I'm done with them, I love to see them look in the mirror, hold their head up higher, and say Wow! I look amazing! That is the best part of my job. This is the best ministry opportunity ever! The have to sit there till I'm done! LOL. I never push, I just listen. Many of these girls are in a world of anorexia, pride, fear, striving to be the best all the time. It gets to them and I love to listen to them and help as much as possible. I pray each time I do a show and each time someone gets in my chair, that I can show God to each in my work and life."
Throughout her journey, Neva thanks God for the gift he has given her. As well as Mayra & Jose's confidence in her, which has inspired her to go this far.
